USA - New York-Day 1
02-Oct-2013
So here I am, sitting in THE most expensive area in the
world, overlooking Manhattan towers and observing the place called New York
City. Well, to start with, this is not a place for romantics. It is cut throat,
it is more real and probably the most advanced version of Urban Metropolis
Life.
Went to the Battery Park Harbour riverfront area. Unlike most harbour areas that I have seen
(In S’pore and in South Africa) this is not all about rest, relaxation and
party. The area is ingrained as a
lifestyle in the people of this city. People take subways to jog in the
waterfront, there are cyclists, baby strollers, skaters, commuters, office
goers..this is a REAL place. Unlike most touristy locations which try to give you
a surreal feeling of existing in a make believe world..New York so far keeps
reminding me of reality…maybe that is the beauty of the place or maybe that is
the irony of it.
Next in line was Times Square. Well the world doesn't lie
when it says that light shines brightest here. To a first timer, the place
would seem like a millennium party on the night he visits. From Nude to Fashion
clad..from streetside to class apart..from music to anything but silence..this
place buzzes with an unimaginable level of activity. You need to see it to
believe it; and still there is a sense of reality. People who line up to see Broadway
shows here, that struggle of a daily life shows on their face. You can look at
the entertainers and feel that entertainment not just comes at a price, it also
comes for a price. The survival instinct and the final triumph of life over
everyday struggle is something that was endearing about the people in this
place. Maybe this is where I will try to make my first attempt to find real
romance of a city.
